The Nelson Hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is committed to delivering excellent care to extremely sick children. Our PICU ward has the latest medical technology and a highly trained team of paediatric intensivists, nurses and health professionals who specialise in the provision of intensive care for children.

State-of-the-Art Life Support and Monitoring: Ventilators, cardiac monitors and specialised diagnostic tools are available in our PICU for advanced life support and monitoring. These gadgets are used during patient's treatment process by examining their body temperature through internal computer or air conditioning system.

Proficient Multidisciplinary Team: The PICU group comprises pediatric intensivists, critical care nurses, nutritionists, respiratory therapists among others who work as a team to provide total care for every child individually.

Family Focused Care: We have set up services that ensure family involvement in day-to-day patient care thus offering educational materials relevant to child illness management plus giving the necessary aid needed for parent's participation during treatment development of their babies.

Comprehensive Treatment and Interventions: After which, we have our PICU services that do offer a broad range of treatments and interventions like advanced respiratory support, cardiovascular care, renal replacement therapy and post-surgical care for complicated surgical cases.

Infection Control and Safety: We have very strict infection control measures to maintain a safe clean environment that will help in preventing infections or complications for these patients who are really weak and vulnerable.

Emotional and Psychological Support: Child life specialists (CLS) as well as psychologists are part of the PICU team who understand how emotionally hard it can be on families; hence they provide emotional support and psychological treatment to patients as well as their families.
